Presented at the 33rd edition of SANA, the International Exhibition of Organic and Natural Products in Bologna, the new Foulard Bamboo® Sculpture line traces three great artistic currents and celebrates Italian creative flair. We asked Piergiorgio Caggiari, creative director of Innbamboo® to answer some questions and reveal some curious background.
How did the idea of a scarf inspired by the world of sculpture come about?
The project Foulard Bamboo® Sculpture was born out of a personal interest and a subsequent deepening of our understanding of this fascinating artistic expression.
In a period like the one we have just lived through, where we were prevented from moving freely, we all found ourselves as cramped, imprisoned in our own bodies.
We learned to observe ourselves with a new look, to value our gestures and expressions more.
In a way, in my eyes, we transformed ourselves into living sculptures, inexorably still, yet with a great ability to communicate.
The idea of a new Foulard Bamboo line ® dedicated to the art of Italian sculpture was immediately welcomed and supported by the whole company and especially by the person with whom I make these works, Barbara Marzella.
With her, in a short time, we collected material and made several sketches, obtaining as final result these exceptional decorations.
Michelangelo, Bernini, Canova: three holy monsters of world art. Why and how to succeed in paying homage to them?
It was as ambitious as it was difficult, but we could only look towards excellence.
The three artists represent in different ways, in terms of style, epoch and subjects chosen, the highest expression of an art that had the ability to transform matter, to give it voice through symbols and meanings that changed the way we see and perceive art and the world.
I Bamboo Scarf® Sculpture want to pay tribute to all of us through and thanks to a universal language, that of the art of these illustrious figures.
Michelangelo's David: how is it represented and enhanced on the fabric?
The David, unlike how we are accustomed to seeing it, seems to peep out of a deserted Florence.
Curious and fearless, it sees the most representative architecture of the Tuscan city in the foreground, giving way to nature. A blooming nature that seems to want to take back its own spaces, as if in sign of rebirth.
Apollo and Daphne, which element of the work finds the clearest expression?
We all know the story of Apollo and Daphne, we have studied the sculpture from every angle: in the Bamboo Scarf® Sculpture dedicated to Bernini's work, we tried to capture and express the strong emotional contrast of Daphne, on the one hand in fear of an unknown and difficult condition, on the other full of joy at a perceived and almost achieved liberation.
The scratched lines with which the sculptural project has been represented - obtained thanks to the artistic vision of Riccardo Biribì - contribute to increase and strengthen its dynamism, as if it were a static figure but at the same time in motion.
The broken geometric lines and bright tones, which frame the figure, stand to symbolize our times and the fragmentation of everyday life.
Canova's sculptural faces come to life in the Bamboo Scarves®. How?
Faces are alive when they express something: through those depicted in Canova's sculptures we have rediscovered feminine beauty and its infinite changes.
Once depicted on the fabric, they proved sufficient to fill any lack: wrapped in twigs and flowers, they seem to observe the dance of their petals.
In Canova's art we recognized the path to follow, with confidence and determination.
It is no coincidence that it was the first decoration in the line Sculpture to be born.
What are the main features of the new scarves?
This line differs from the previous ones at the first glance.
For the first time we have included graphic elements in our decorative designs, enhancing their artistic value.
Simple and unique at the same time, their decors represent elegance and universal beauty, a tribute to the sculptural art of three great Italian artists.
They are scarves to be really proud of.
